So they’re rebooting DuckTales
So have you heard that Disney is rebooting DuckTales?
I’ll give you a few minutes to get the DuckTales theme out of your head before continuing.
For those of you who may be too young to remember – hard to believe the show made its debut three decades ago in 1987 – DuckTales was a cartoon that followed the world’s richest waterfowl, Scrooge McDuck, and his triplet nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie through various escapades and adventures, based loosely on the classic Carl Barks comic book series. It was a very dear favorite for many kids of that generation, myself included, from the unforgettable theme song to scores of fun and memorable adventures.
So needless to say, with 90’s Nostalgia coming into full swing, and the previously mentioned 30th anniversary of the show coming up later this year, it makes sense that Disney is looking to debut a DuckTales reboot later this year. And pleasantly enough, if the trailer released today is a sign of things, it looks really good.
I really like the minimalist animation style, which reminds me a lot of the old Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge comic books. While it’s odd not to hear them quacking like the old show, the DuckTales reboot has a talented voice cast, including Community’s Danny Pudi as Huey and Parks and Recreation’s Ben Schwartz as Dewey. Most notable though, is the Tenth Doctor himself, David Tennant voicing Scrooge McDuck, and if his delightfully Scottish take on the classic “smarter than the smarties and tougher than the toughies” line is any sign of things, he’ll be worth watching for the show itself. Plus, given its already been renewed for a second season, I assume Disney has high hopes, so for now, so shall I.
The rebooted DuckTales will be airing on television sometime over the summer, but until then, feel free to join the new cast in singing along with the theme song another dozen or so times.
